Overflow
A tiling pattern of squirming bycatch.
Overflow depicts dragged up sea creatures blending into an homogeneous mass. Rendered in the style of a gold foil print, it tries to capture a grotesque scene as a graceful pattern.
The piece was created using an custom implementation of the Gray Scott reaction diffusion algorithm. Reaction diffusion models are used to understand and mimic complex organic patterns found in nature, such as stripes in fur or the enchanting patterns of sea creatures. Overflow combines hand drawn parts with computer generated patterns, that extend the initial drawing into the full piece.
