Turbo Waddle

Felix Rader & Valentin Postl @ Hagenberg Game Jam 2023

An experimental and absurd video game about wanting to smoke a cigarette.

Like cigarettes, this game is completely usable without a mouse or keyboard. You do it just with your mouth and body.

Turbo Waddle Game Start Screen. The game character is suspended in the air over a grassy landscape. Bold in the screen says "Navigate this menu with your voice - say start"

Turbo Waddle was created at the Hagenberg Game Jam 2023 in just over 36 Hours.

You are Saul Dabby, and you really want to buy a cigarette from the cigarette machine. But unfortunately, things do not go as planned :( Control Saul Dabby with your arms and legs! All with just a normal webcam.

The motion capture is based on UnityPythonMediaPipeBodyPose, which streams data from Google’s MediaPipePose pose estimation into Unity. Movement is entirely Physics based. Joint angles from the pose estimation are translated into spring forces, that control Saul Dabby’s limbs.

A schematic showing numbered human landmark positions of the MediaPipePose tool opn the Left. The right shows the came Character. Limbs on both sides are color coded with matching colors

As we are only two team members and do not have a narrator, you have to narrate the story out loud yourself. Sorry :(

Voice recognition works with whisper by OpenAI, using the whisper.unity package.
